The world we live in today is killing us from the outside in. The promise of more is deceiving us into thinking that it will satisfy our deepest needs. But it’s a lie. If we stop long enough to think about it, we know that more “things” won’t give us purpose, meaning, or fulfillment.
Our modern day struggle is very similar to the struggle of the ancient Israelites. A whole generation of people were wandering in the desert on their way to the land God had promised them. Their only means of provision was manna (bread) that literally fell from heaven. It seems crazy, but it happened. Every day they went out to collect the food and God told them to collect only what they needed…but that’s not what happened!
Never satisfied, the Israelites would gather as much as they could. When they tried to store the food, the next day it was spoiled and infested with maggots. In the spoil and rot they were creating sickness and death. In their unrelenting desire for more, their blessings had become a burden.
