What We Do Each Week
Our nursery area consists of two classrooms: Newborn – crawling and walkers – 2 1/2. Both rooms have loving adults to care for your children and age-appropriate toys.
Preschool children are ages 3 - 4 years old. Children experience play time, kid-friendly worship music, a snack, and discover many Bible stories for the first time. We use curriculum by Gospel Light for this age group, which allows us to not only introduce Bible stories, but teach children important truths (such as “God loves you”).
Elementary (Kindergarten – 5th Grade)
Our elementary children are split between three classrooms: Pre-K and Kindergarten, Lower Elementary grades 1st - 3rd, and Upper Elementary Grades 4th - 5th. Our elementary-aged children begin service with community-building time, allowing them to connect with new friends. All age groups engage in energetic worship and interactive, creative Bible teaching through drama or video. We use ReThink Group’s 2:52 Basics curriculum as the basis of our lessons, as each month we explore a diferent theme/virtue (such as love, kindness, humility). After large group time, children also participate in age appropriate activities or games to help kids apply what they’ve learned to their lives.
Special Needs Programming
The LifeKids special needs program exists to provide an opportunity for children with different abilities to learn about God’s love for them in practical ways. This is accomplished through interaction with their peers and teachers in a developmentally appropriate environment. Special Needs volunteers strive to specifically serve those children who have special needs by providing an adult buddy in the classroom and if necessary facilitating the child’s involvement so that the child may get the most possible benefit out of his/her time at LifeKids.
what we do each year
Seasonal Special Events
At LifeKids, we create special events throughout the year for your children to participate in. Past events have included our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat, and our special Christmas Eve Service. To learn more about these events, sign up for the official LifeKids newsletter.
Community Building Events
To help our older children GROW in their relationships and offer opportunities where they can GO invite friends to church, we regularly plan community-building events. An example of this would be our “Fun Nights” for those in grades 3-5. In the past, we’ve held a spring Fun Night as well as a Christmas Party in December. Past fun night activities have included crazy games, inflatables, movies, crafts, snacks, and more! To learn when these events are scheduled, please sign up for the official LifeKids newsletter.
Each summer, LifeKids host two Summer Camps. Kids Camp runs five mornings for children preschool-5th grade. Children will experience live music and creative Bible teaching. Elementary-aged children can choose between different “tracks” they would like to participate in (past tracks have included sports, art, drama, music, and science).
Our GO Camp also takes place in the summer for those in 3rd-5th grades. This 3 day camp focuses on serving our immediate community. Past service projects have included shopping for supplies for HPCO’s Backpack drive, sorting food at Open Door Food Pantry, and organizing the library at City Mission in Detroit. For more information on when these camps will be held, please sign up for the official LifeKids newsletter.
